I was quite taken with this piece when I saw it. It was very deep and alluring. I love the light and the shadows, and the contrast between the fog and the trees. The colours are interesting. The soft yellow-grey is almost sickly, and the picture doesn't feel alive. The colours are relatively cold and the whole piece suggests cold and damp. The foliage is minimal, which suggests absence of life. Despite that, the piece is calming and gentle. The fog is thick and hangs about the trees like a blanket. The ground seems soft, too. The ferns are interesting as it seems as though they are hiding something, and the fog adds to that illusion. All in all, a very mysterious piece but one that draws the viewer in. The colours contrast with one another but all indicate secrets and sickness. I think it is a great shot.
While I think that "into the fog" is a nice shot, I feel like it doesn't even come close to comparing to this one. There's something very special about this and enticing.
I personally like the composition in this and the crop to go with it. Perhaps it's more of the usual viewpoint, but I think it works well for this. It gives a feeling as if you were standing there, walking through the scene.
The lighting in this is gorgeous. Although brighter at the top, it's not blown out which keeps the rather muted colours in tact.
An enchanting shot that leaves me wondering what lies ahead. Wonderful!
