Firstly, I would like to congratulate Megson on achieving first place in the Fairytale contest [link] with this stunning piece of work.

Secondly, I will not be commenting on any technical or aesthetic aspects of the picture...because I think they are spot on. <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b…" width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Big Grin) - "/>

As we all know, a 'Fairytale' is commonly perceived as a wondrous tale of magical beings, princes and princesses, elves and of foolish men who accidentally venture into the realms of Faërie.

Megson has evoked the essence of this land of the 'never never' by presenting us with a mystical vision of reality, where the diaphanous veil over the land of Faërie appears to shimmer before our very eyes.

The whimsical nature of the sparkling cobwebs that cling tentatively to the stalks of the plants, invite us inwards, forming a delicate tunnel into the realm beyond, daring us to enter.

The marvelous use of bokeh has broken down the background in to hazy circles of subtle shades and tones, reminiscent of the Fairy Circles entwined into the lore itself and the vibrant green beyond is the land of Faërie, with it's promise of adventure and wonder, perhaps even the love a prince or princess.

The delicate flowers around the edges of the composition take on the appearance of pearls, a portal of beauty and tenderness that promises to ease our passage to the nirvana that waits beyond the veil.

But beware, not all tales of Faërie have a happy ending...if you are willing to take that risk, then enter through the gateway that this beautiful image has provided for you.
